About Our Service
How does KeepCreditCardOpen work?
KeepCreditCardOpen is a simple service that places small, regular charges on your credit card to help keep it active. Here's how it works:
- You select a subscription plan with your preferred charge amount and frequency (monthly, semi-annual, or annual)
- We process a small charge to your credit card based on your selected plan
- This activity is reported to credit bureaus as normal credit card usage
- The regular transactions help maintain your card as active with the issuer
The service is designed to be hands-off once set up, ensuring your cards stay active without you having to remember to use them.
What will appear on my credit card statement?
The charge will appear on your statement as "Sim32 LLC" or "Sim32.com".
Can I use this for multiple credit cards?
Yes! You can create separate subscriptions for each credit card you want to keep active. Simply complete the subscription process separately for each card you wish to maintain.
Many of our customers use our service for multiple rarely-used cards that they want to keep open for credit history purposes.
Can I change or cancel my subscription?
Yes, you have full control over your subscription. All subscription management is handled through Stripe's secure customer portal, which you can access using the link in your confirmation email.
Credit Card Inactivity
Why do credit card companies close inactive cards?
Credit card issuers close inactive cards for several business reasons:
- Risk management - Inactive accounts represent financial liability without generating revenue
- Operational costs - Maintaining accounts costs money (statements, fraud monitoring, etc.)
- Reduced profitability - Card issuers make money from transaction fees and interest
- Regulatory compliance - Some inactive accounts must be reported differently
By placing small, regular charges on your cards, you signal to issuers that the account remains valuable to both parties.
How long before inactivity triggers a closure?
The inactivity period that triggers account closure varies by credit card issuer, but typically ranges from 6 to 24 months of no activity. Common timelines include:
- 6-12 months: Many store credit cards and smaller banks
- 12-18 months: Most major credit card issuers
- 18-24 months: Some premium cards and certain major banks
These timeframes are general guidelines, as issuers rarely publish their exact policies. Some issuers may also consider other factors like account history, credit score, and overall relationship with the bank.
Will small charges definitely prevent closure?
While we cannot guarantee that small charges will prevent every card closure in every situation, regular activity is the primary factor most credit card issuers use to determine whether to keep an account open.
Small, regular charges are typically sufficient to register as account activity with credit card issuers and can help prevent automatic closure due to inactivity. However, credit card companies may close accounts for other reasons, including:
- Changes to the card issuer's policies
- Adverse changes to your credit profile
- The card program being discontinued
Our service is designed to address the most common reason for unwanted card closure—inactivity—but cannot control all possible factors.
How does card closure impact my credit score?
When a credit card is closed, it can potentially affect your credit score in several ways:
- Credit utilization ratio: If the closed card had available credit, your overall utilization ratio may increase, which can lower your score
- Credit history length: If the closed card was one of your older accounts, it could eventually shorten your credit history once it falls off your report
- Credit mix: Losing a revolving credit account could affect your credit mix
The impact varies based on your overall credit profile, but keeping long-established credit cards open generally benefits your credit score, especially if they have no annual fee. For a detailed analysis of whether you should keep your old card open, check out our comprehensive decision guide.
Account Management
How do I manage my subscription?
You can manage all aspects of your subscription through the Stripe customer portal. When you sign up, you'll receive an email with a secure link to your personal customer portal.
What if my payment method changes?
If your credit card information changes (due to expiration, replacement, or other reasons), you'll need to subscrbe to the service using your new account information and cancel the old subscription.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Stripe customer portal using the link from your subscription confirmation email.
What is your refund policy?
Due to the nature of our service, refunds are generally not provided for charges that have already been processed, as the service has already been delivered (the charge has been made to help keep your card active).
However, we evaluate refund requests on a case-by-case basis. If you believe you have a special circumstance, please contact our support team.
